Barcelona has been my place for over two decades. The city where I let loose as a young person, grew into adulthood, developed as a journalist, and created my own family. I want to know what the sex life of my city is like, the one that doesn’t fit into clickbait headlines. Nearly two million people live here, and it’s impossible to capture its essence in a frivolous statistic. That’s why, over the past year, I have dedicated myself to gathering the experiences of Barcelonans who navigate sex far from the familiar experiences of the majority. By interacting with them, I discovered a city I was unaware of. I am a reporter who always fantasized about being an anthropologist. I talk to people and listen to them. The sourdough starter of this book comes from my forays into parties, clubs, and sexual events, but also from my visits to sex shops, demonstrations by sex workers, podcast recordings, sexuality workshops, private house gatherings, as well as my own experiences. Sex and secrets go hand in hand, and in these pages, you will find plenty of both.
