What color are whites? The question that titles this book opens a dual reading of society. It is important to emphasize that whiteness is not merely a chromatic issue, but an asymmetrical world-system that some have built to serve an appetite for power based on the ideology of exclusion. From multiple anti-racist, anti-patriarchal, anti-homophobic, anti-classist, and anti-border fronts – among others – this book draws on a range of resources that, although not exhaustive, engage with current issues through a diverse cast of writers, artivists, critical thinkers, afrociberactivists, and social agitators. All of them, from heterogeneous perspectives, converge in the struggles of Afro-descendant and African communities seeking institutional recognition.
This work aims to make visible the voices historically eclipsed and pushed to the margins of normality. In these pages, theoretical perspectives, of an intersectional and multidisciplinary nature, are nourished by an epistemological dissidence that responds to the urgency of academic and political recognition of diversity.
The themes analyzed here are part of contemporary debates and intertwine with the struggles of Afropean communities, who claim their place in the present and in memory.
