BAJO LAS SOMBRAS
It is autumn 2005 and Yzayana’s life is shattered. Her mother has died and she has nothing left to call family. Social Services threatens to take her away, but thanks to the intervention of an eccentric elderly woman, Yza secures a place at the country’s most prestigious girls’ boarding school. Yza doesn’t care about fitting in, but she does want to uncover the secrets surrounding her mother’s death. However, a conflict is about to erupt that threatens to entangle her in an even more urgent mystery: why does the most popular girl at the academy hate her so much? Emma Lerroux hates wasting time on nonsense. She is beautiful and arrogant, and it’s hard to escape her magnetism. Her goal is to graduate and break free from her family’s control, but when her mother falls ill, her plans start to falter. And the new girl, whom she detests, might sneak into her heart without Emma noticing. Both will embark on a path where innocence and cruelty exchange faces, and the secrets of the past return to bury them under the shadows. Bajo las sombras is a novel set in Mexico in which the author addresses, among other themes, homophobia, racism, family ties, and whose ―painfully human― characters guide us through peaks and abysses toward a tragedy that seems inevitable, while at the same time affirming the capacity to love even in the most difficult contexts. It is the first part of the trilogy El misterio de la Escritora.
